The Ahuriri Valley is located inland to the West of Omarama in the central South Island of New Zealand.
A popular spot for tramping, fishing and hunting, I visited this area a number of times, visiting all the backcountry huts throughout the valley.
After spending a night at Hagens Hut I woke to this view looking up to the headwaters of the valley. The neutral blues and greens caught my eye, topped off with the snow capped rugged mountains.
The feeling of a crisp and cool morning speaks clearly through this colour palette, drawing you into the scene. I can still remember when the morning sun finally came down into the valley warming the soul!
