First weekend of winter. A night out in the fresh snow.
Queens birthday long weekend, a great opportunity to escape the homeowner chores and venture out into the mountains.
With Lewis Pass being closed due to heavy snow and the river levels very river our options were a bit limited. We ended up settling with Beeby's Knob up the Nelson Lakes.
Settling off Saturday afternoon we arrived at the chilly hut, fresh snow falling around us. A freezing wind chill go us moving. We woke up to a beautiful fine day, snowy mountains as far as the eye could see. I captured some of the morning light, casting ultramarine shadows over the landscape. Ice and snow clung to the tussocks and alpine flora, creating fascinating textures and shapes.
